Pitcher Plant Care
Light
Bright, indirect to dappled sun. A little gentle morning sun helps color, avoid harsh midday rays.
Water
Keep evenly moist but not waterlogged. Use only distilled, rain, or reverse-osmosis water. Never let pots sit in water. If pitchers dry up, increase humidity and light.
Humidity & Temperature
Prefer higher humidity (50–70%+). Most common hybrids are happy at 65–85°F. Avoid cold drafts, steady warmth = better pitchers.
Soil & Fertilizing
Airy, nutrient mix: long-fiber sphagnum moss + perlite (often 1:1), or add a little orchid bark. No regular fertilizer in the soil. Optional: once a month, you can drop a single dried insect into a few pitchers.
Pet Safety
Generally non-toxic, but not edible, keep pets from drinking the pitcher fluid.
Native Region
Southeast Asia, Madagascar, New Guinea, Australia.
Fun Fact
Pitchers are modified leaves that lure insects with nectar and color, the slippery rim (peristome) sends prey into the digestive pool.
