Tradescantia Care

Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. A few hours of soft morning sun helps keep colors vivid. Lower light = leggier growth and faded variegation.

Water
Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry. Drench thoroughly, then drain. They dislike staying soggy,  slightly drier in cool/low-light conditions.

Humidity & Temperature
Average home humidity is fine. 40–60% keeps tips from crisping. 60–85°F is the sweet spot, and protect from cold drafts.

Soil & Fertilizing
Use a well-draining indoor mix (add perlite/pumice). Feed every 4–6 weeks in spring–summer with a balanced, dilute liquid fertilizer. Ease off in fall–winter.

Pet Safety
Not pet safe. Sap can irritate skin and mouths of pets (and some people), wear gloves if you’re sensitive.

Native Region
Mexico to Central/South America (varies by species).

Fun Fact
Tradescantia nodes root readily, snip a stem and pot or propagate it.
