Ponytail Palm Stump Care
Light Requirements
Ponytail Palms thrive in bright, indirect light but can also adapt to full sun. A south or west-facing window is ideal. They can tolerate lower light but will grow slower and develop thinner leaves.
Watering Needs
This plant stores water in its bulb-like trunk, so it prefers dry soil between waterings. Water thoroughly, then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. In winter, water less often. Overwatering is the most common cause of root rot, so when in doubt, keep it dry.
Humidity and Temperature
Ponytail Palms prefer low to moderate humidity and do well in normal household air. Ideal temperatures range between 60 and 85°F. Avoid cold drafts or temperatures below 50°F (10°C).
Soil and Fertilizing
Use a well-draining mix such as cactus or succulent soil. You can improve drainage by adding sand or perlite. Fertilize lightly every 2 to 4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Skip feeding in fall and winter.

Fun Fact
Despite its name, the Ponytail Palm is not a true palm. It is actually a succulent, storing water in its thick trunk to survive long dry periods.
Native Region
Native to the semi-desert regions of eastern Mexico, where it grows in rocky, arid soil and full sun.
